What are skid steer concrete mixing attachments?

Skid Steer Concrete Mixers are attachments that use your skid steers auxiliary hydraulic power for mixing, transportation, and pouring concrete.

Skid Steer concrete mixers are commonly used for filling post holes, pouring slabs, mixing mortar and much more.

Most concrete mixers are fitted with fork slots or skid steer quick attach couplers. This makes it compatible with almost all of the skid steers and most modern tractors that exist on the market. Your skid steer does of course need to have auxiliary hydraulic power.

Most skid steer concrete mixers do not require auxiliary electrical power. You can operate the concrete mixer with just your skid steer's hydraulics alone.

How Is The Concrete Dispensed?

Once your concrete is mixed, it's time to position your skid steer concrete mixer attachment in place for pouring.

Smaller skid steer concrete mixers will have a manual gate which needs an outside helper to open and close. Larger units will have a hydraulic gate to assist in opening and closing the gate.

The hydraulic gate consists of a two way cylinder that pulls the gate open or seals it shut. When the gate it open it directs the concrete down a 45 degree chute so it can be placed with precision. The chute can be chained up and out of the way when not in use.

How Much Concrete Can a Skid Steer Concrete Mixer Hold?

There are several different sizes of skid steer concrete mixers available on the market. If we use EZG's "Mobile Mud Hog" for example, the concrete capacities are as follows:

  1. MMH9 - 8 to 9 80 pound concrete bags

  2. MMH12 - 11 to 12 80 pound concrete bags

  3. MMH20 - 19 to 20 80 pound concrete bags

How Fast Can Concrete Be dispensed?

A high quality skid steer concrete mixer can dispense 1/2 yard of concrete per minute.

Results vary depending on the hydraulic power of your skid steer, the viscosity of the material being dispensed as well as other factors.

Can I mix Grout with my Skid Steer Concrete Mixer?

Yes, it is very common to mix large amounts of grout with a skid steer concrete mixer.

Grout is very similar to concrete in the sense that it is cement based, sold as a dry powder, and mixed with water to obtain the correct density.

Once mixed, grout is typically thin and flows quite well. This makes it ideal for use in skid steer concrete mixers.

Can I Mix Mortar with my Skid Steer Concrete Mixer?

Yes, it is common to mix mortar with a skid steer concrete mixer.

Mortar contains many of the same properties as grout but typically has a lime additive. Lime additive creates more durability making it ideal for connecting pieces of masonry.

Once mixed with water, mortar is flowable and is ideal for skid steer concrete mixers.

How Much Hydraulic Flow Do I Need From My Skid Steer?

Not much!

Skid Steer concrete mixer attachments are designed to be used with both high and low flow skid steers.

Using an average of 2,000 PSI, EZG manufacturing recommends between 10 and 40 gallons per minute for their largest concrete mixer the "MMH20 Mobile Mud Hog". This covers nearly all skid steer capabilities.

How Much Do Skid Steer Concrete Mixers Weigh?

This is not a small skid steer attachment. A full size skid steer concrete mixer will weigh in the range of 900 to 1,400 pounds when it's empty.

Fully loaded concrete mixer can weight from 3,ooo to 4,500 pounds.

Because of the high fully loaded weight of the concrete mixer, it's important to ensure that your skid steer is up for the job.

Be sure to check your skid steers operating capacity to avoid tipping and damaging your equipment. If you are using forks to lift your concrete mixer, be sure to have forks rated for weights beyond the fully loaded capacity.
